HALIFAX - Three properties have been ordered vacated by a judge after Halifax police responded to them more than 700 times since 2008 because of complaints about illegal activity.

The provincial government says Judge John Murphy of Nova Scotia's Supreme Court granted the order on Thursday under the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Act.

In a news release, the government says he ruled the properties on Victoria Road in the community of Dartmouth had been extensively used for drug trafficking and prostitution.

The government says the three properties are owned by the same person.

Since the government brought in the legislation in 2007, it says it has received more than 700 complaints about illegal activities, such as bootlegging, drugs, prostitution and illegal gaming.

With the ruling on Thursday, there have been eight evictions using community safety orders and more than 122 voluntary evictions.
