A Nova Scotia man has been found guilty in the shooting deaths of a couple in their Hants County home nearly 12 years ago.

Leslie Douglas Greenwood received a mandatory sentence of life in prison with no parole eligibility for 25 years Wednesday following a jury trial in Nova Scotia Supreme Court.

The 42-year-old man was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Barry Kirk Mersereau and his common-law wife, Nancy Paula Christensen.

The man and woman, both in their late 40s, were gunned down in their Centre Burlington home on Sept. 9, 2000.

Michael John Lawrence of Windsor, N.S., was sentenced in January to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years after pleading guilty to first-degree murder in the couple's deaths.

During the trial, Lawrence testified that he and Greenwood killed the couple on the orders of a former Hells Angel to get out of paying a drug debt.

A third man, Curtis Blair Lynds, also faces charges of first-degree murder in the deaths and has a preliminary inquiry set for July 16.
