No one was injured when a salt truck crashed into a home in Trenton, Nova Scotia Wednesday morning.

Police say the five-tonne fully-loaded truck was travelling on Egerton Street when it turned and smashed into the home at 50 Chestnut Street shortly after 10 a.m.

CTV News spoke with homeowner Robert Doucette, who says his wife was inside at the time of the crash.

She had worked a night shift and was resting on the couch in their living room early Wednesday. He says she left the living room and less than an hour later, the truck plowed into it.

"Just lucky nobody was hurt," says Doucette. "The wife was in the bedroom. If she had been on the couch, she'd be gone, and the truck driver's all right so that's the biggest concern."

Doucette says the truck smashed the home off its foundation and caused part of the ceiling to collapse into the living room. The truck also received extensive damage in the crash.

It's not known at this time if slippery roads, mechanical problems or driver error led to the accident.

Investigators have seized the truck and they plan to carry out an inspection.
