Police believe human remains discovered this week in a wooded area of Amherst, N.S., are those of a woman who went missing 13 months ago.

Deputy Chief Ian Naylor said in a release Thursday that several pieces of identification for Katherine Cora McNeil were found at the scene.

However, he said positive identification and a cause of death had yet to be determined.

The 58-year-old McNeil was last seen on Oct. 4, 2010, as she was leaving Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, about a kilometre from where the remains were found Wednesday morning.
