Police in New Glasgow say an emotional plea from Amber Kirwan's mother has resulted in new tips as police continue to investigate the missing teen's disappearance.

"We are requesting the public to come forward with any information they may have regarding the missing of our daughter, no matter how small or irrelevant they may think the information is," said Marjorie Kirwan as she gave a statement Tuesday.

"Come forward and let the police decide if the information is relevant to the investigation."

Kirwan was last seen leaving Dooly's pool hall in New Glasgow on October 9. She left around 1:30 a.m. and was supposed to meet her boyfriend at Big Al's convenience store, a mere two-minute walk up the street.

But the 19-year-old never showed and her disappearance remains a mystery.

Yesterday, her mother Marjorie Kirwan made an emotional plea to the public for her daughter's safe return. She spoke for less than two minutes but police say her remarks have produced results.

"We've received numerous tips and information from the general public," says Const. Ken MacDonald, a spokesman with New Glasgow Police. "As a result, each tip and information must be investigated."

Many Pictou County residents say it's no surprise that people have responded so quickly to Marjorie Kirwan's plea, although it was a difficult thing to watch.

"It broke my heart for both of them," said Mariea Leil-Bowser, a friend of the Kirwan family. "You just saw the anguish in her, the anguish in Donnie. And just the plea for people, please, as she said, if you know anything, whether you think it's significant or not, it could be to the case."

"It was sad," said resident Pat Bourguignon. "I shed a few tears because I can't imagine what she's going through."

Three weeks and three days have passed since Kirwan disappeared. A surveillance video from Dooly's shows Kirwan leaving the pool hall, and making her way up the street towards Big Al's before she disappears from view.

Surveillance tapes from the convenience store show her boyfriend's car in the parking lot, but Kirwan never appears on the tape.

Police, RCMP and search crews scoured wooded areas and river banks for clues in the teen's disappearance. They also seized Campbell's car, but it has since been returned, and no arrests have been made in the case.

Pictou County residents have also united over the case, organizing vigils and fundraisers and passing out posters appealing for help in finding the missing teen. Kirwan's face peers out from the windows of cars, stores and businesses, and from telephone poles across the county.

"Heartbreaking, absolutely heartbreaking," said resident Shirley MacGillivray. "It's on everybody's mind in the whole county. Everybody just wants her to come home."

Anyone with information on the case is being asked to contact New Glasgow Police or Crime Stoppers.
