A former priest has pleaded guilty to defrauding church parishes of more than $116,000 in several New Brunswick communities.

Yvon Doiron, 63, of Paquetville appeared in Campbellton provincial court today to face four counts of fraud.

Police say the incidents occurred at church parishes in Dalhousie, Charlo, Eel River Crossing and Dundee between 1997 and 2003.

Doiron now lives in Montreal, but he was working as a priest at the parishes at the time.

Police launched an investigation into the incidents in June 2006.

Doiron is due back in court on January 30 for sentencing.
