HALIFAX – A strange noise coming from the Oland Brewery had people in the North End of Halifax awake and concerned at 8 a.m. on Sunday.

Wade Keller, Oland Brewery Spokesperson, says the noise was a mistake and is part of a routine procedure to vacuum drains containing leftover material.

"It's a residential area primarily, so I'd like to think they'd work better with the neighbours," said Michele Roziere, a North end resident.

The brewery's routine procedure coincides with HRM's noise bylaw. The bylaw states that activities that disturb peace and tranquility of a resident can't begin until after 9 a.m. on Sundays.

Keller acknowledges that the brewery breached the bylaw regulations.

"It was pretty early, it shouldn't have happened… we will be taking steps to see why people were there at 8 a.m.," said Keller.

Keller says the maintenance is performed by contractors and Oland Brewery will work to ensure this incident does not happen again.
