An officer with the Halifax Regional Police is facing sexual assault charges after an incident early this morning in Halifax.

Officers responded to the 1500 block of Grafton Street around 1:30 a.m. Friday and met with a woman who told them a man had touched her inappropriately.

Police say the man was identified as an off-duty police officer and he was arrested at the scene without incident.

Const. Andrew Morris, 43, has been with the department for three years.

Halifax District RCMP investigated the complaint.

Morris has been charged with sexual assault. He was released on a promise to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on November 15.

Police say Morris has been suspended pending the outcome of the matter.
