Police have identified the city's latest murder victim as 37-year-old James Gregory Wareham of Sackville.
Officers responded to a call at an apartment in the 0-100 block of Primrose Street in Dartmouth Saturday around 11:15 p.m. The caller told police his friend had been stabbed.
Police discovered Wareham suffering from a stab wound to his stomach. He was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre where he died Sunday.
Investigators believe a man known to the victim entered his apartment and an argument ensued, which led to the stabbing.
"We do not believe this was a random incident," says Halifax police spokeswoman Theresa Rath. "We do believe that the people involved were known to one another."
Police don't believe the murder is connected to a gang battle over drugs, unlike other homicides that have taken place this year.
This is the ninth homicide to take place in the Halifax Regional Municipality this year.
Police haven't laid any charges or made any arrests, but investigators say they have several leads in the case.
They are asking anyone with information to come forward.
