Police have laid additional sex-related charges against a Dartmouth man who coaches and referees youth volleyball.

Joseph Emile "Luc" Potvin was charged last week with allegedly luring a child, sexual exploitation and possession of child pornography, following a week-long investigation by Halifax Regional Police.

Police say they laid three new charges - including sexual assault, production of child pornography and distribution of child pornography - against Potvin on Monday.

Officers received a complaint last week about a man's conduct with a 17-year-old female with whom he held a position of trust.

This led officers to conduct a search at a Portland Hills Drive home on Friday morning just after 6 a.m. Officers found evidence of child pornography on computer equipment in the home.

The 53-year-old was arrested at the scene without incident.

Volleyball Nova Scotia President David Sweatnam has confirmed to CTV News that Potvin holds a volunteer position with the Metro Lakers Volleyball Club.

Sweatnam says police called him Friday afternoon to let him know they were releasing information on Potvin. He says he is shocked and saddened to hear of the charges.

Potvin appeared in Dartmouth Provincial Court Monday.
