Maria has been a welcome addition to Live at 5 since taking on the role of producer and host of "Section Six" last year. She passionately pursues the latest in pop culture and entertainment. From the latest in fashion and celebrity news, to apps and viral videos, Maria covers it all.

Maria also hosted the popular "In Our Backyard" segment on Live at 5, bringing viewers undiscovered gems in our Maritime communities. One of her features won a prestigious RTNDA this year for Best Short Feature.

Maria is well known to Maritime viewers, having co-hosted CTV Two's popular morning show Breakfast Television for many years. She continues to bring her enthusiasm, infectious spirit and professionalism to her role on Live at 5.

Originally from Halifax, Maria has extensive formal education including a Bachelor of Science degree from Dalhousie University, a Journalism degree from University of King's College and a Post Graduate diploma in Applied Information Technology. Maria joined CTV Atlantic in 2002 starting as a floor director and production assistant before landing a gig on Breakfast Television

In 2005 Maria won Making it Big, a North American reality show which saw her compete against two other contestants for the title of best entertainment reporter. Maria also provided high-energy coverage for CTV Atlantic when the Juno Awards came to Halifax in April 2006. Most recently, Maria won a prestigious International Edward R. Murrow Award for Breakfast Television in Nicaragua.

Maria is heavily involved in the community and lends her time and support to a wide variety of events and organizations including CTV supported organizations such as the IWK Health Centre, the Children's Wish Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society.
